Depends on your budget and technical skills, both in music and techology usage in it…you need both. Youtube has great videos on this subject. Visual learning is best.
Depends on what kind of thing you want to do. I use Ableton Live and FL Studio (Producer Edition) and actually prefer FL Studio at the moment. It’s not just great value for money but it also has great features. Some people seem to think it’s a beginners software, but I’ve been using it for years now and I don’t feel like I need something more pro at all. I just use lots of additional VST instruments/effects and samples, many of which are free.
In case you decide to buy FL Studio, make sure to get the right version. The demo is like the Producer Edition, except you will only get the Sytrus synth, Directwave sampler and some other generators with the XXL version.
